The Asante Akim South Municipal Assembly has held a colorful civic parade and durbar to celebrate Ghana's 69th Independence Day anniversary. The event, held at the municipal parade grounds in Juaso, aligned with the national theme for this year's celebration: “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope”. The celebration attracted a large turnout, including traditional authorities, assembly members, religious leaders, and members of the public who gathered to witness the annual march past. Participating in the parade were basic and second-cycle schools within the municipality, alongside voluntary organizations. Smartly dressed students marched to patriotic tunes provided by local brass bands, demonstrating high levels of discipline and civic pride. Delivering the key independence anniversary address on behalf of the President, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah, paid tribute to the nation's founding leaders whose sacrifices secured political freedom in 1957. She noted that the task for the current generation is to convert that political sovereignty into sustainable, broad-based economic growth. Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah emphasized that the municipal assembly is actively aligning its development plans with the national theme by prioritizing key sectors such as agriculture, education, and rural infrastructure. She highlighted recent municipal interventions, including the modernization of educational facilities in communities like Tanokrom and Tokwai Odumasi. The MCE urged all citizens, particularly the youth, to embrace discipline, responsibility, and patriotism as essential tools for municipal progress. The Municipal Director of Education commended the teachers and students for their excellent performance during the march past. He reminded stakeholders that quality education remains the bedrock of national prosperity, urging parents to remain deeply invested in their children's academic journeys. The anniversary concluded with the presentation of awards and certificates to the best-performing schools in the march-past competition across the primary, junior high, and senior high school categories.
