In a direct move to ensure orderly spatial planning and protect public infrastructure, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asante Akim South, Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah, has joined the Assembly’s Building Inspectorate Unit on a rigorous development control and enforcement exercise within the municipality. The joint operation was designed to identify and halt the erection of unauthorized buildings and temporary structures that violate local zoning laws. The enforcement team combed through several developing zones and commercial hubs where structural encroachment has been on the rise. Special attention was paid to structures constructed without valid building permits, as well as developments that block access roads, utility lines, and natural waterways. During the field exercise, Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah actively engaged developers and property owners, emphasizing that unregulated structural sprawling poses severe risks to community safety, emergency services access, and flood management. The Municipal Chief Executive directed the inspectorate team to serve immediate stop-work and demolition notices to developers operating outside legal frameworks. She stressed that while the administration strongly welcomes private development, it must strictly conform to the structural regulations set by the Assembly. The management of the Building Inspectorate Unit highlighted that the presence of the MCE on the field adds critical institutional weight to their enforcement mandate. The unit reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining regular surveillance across all communities to prevent the layout of illegal settlements. Traditional authorities and community members were urged to consult the Assembly’s physical planning department before purchasing land or embarking on any construction projects to avoid financial losses.
