ASANTE AKIM SOUTH MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY DISBURSES LEAP GRANTS TO CUSHION VULNERABLE HOUSEHOLDS

The Asante Akim South Municipal Assembly has successfully conducted a major bi-monthly cash disbursement under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme. The exercise took place at the offices of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development at the Assembly premises in Juaso. The payment exercise was jointly supervised by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah, alongside the Head of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, ensuring smooth, transparent, and direct payouts to verified caregivers and beneficiaries. The disbursement catered to hundreds of validated local beneficiaries across the municipality, including elderly citizens without support, caregivers of orphans and vulnerable children, and persons with severe disabilities who lack economic capacity. The cash grants are structured to assist these households in meeting essential living costs, particularly healthcare, proper nutrition, and educational needs. Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah affirmed that regular social cash transfers remain a vital safety net for reducing poverty and cushioning vulnerable residents against economic shocks. The MCE advised the recipients to utilize the funds prudently for critical domestic welfare and household sustenance. The Head of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development noted that beyond the financial payouts, the department used the platform to conduct social sensitization on health, child protection, and automatic National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) card renewals for beneficiary families. Caregivers in attendance expressed gratitude to the municipal leadership and social welfare officers for the seamless payment process and continuous administrative support.
