The Asante Akim South Municipal Assembly, working through its Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, has conducted a major distribution of productive economic tools and commercial startup kits to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the municipality. The initiative, funded through the Disability Fund allocation of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), forms part of the local administration's ongoing efforts to promote inclusive local economic development, reduce financial vulnerability, and eliminate social dependency among PWDs. The distribution exercise took place at the Assembly premises in Juaso under the direct supervision of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah, and the Head of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development accompanied by the Head of the Business Advisory Centre - Juaso. To maximize the economic impact of the intervention, beneficiaries were selected following comprehensive baseline assessments and field evaluations conducted by social welfare officers. The distributed items were tailored directly to the existing trade skills, micro-enterprise interests, and physical capabilities of each recipient. The economic assets presented included: • Commercial Processing Equipment: Deep freezers and mechanical fufu pounding machines to support local food vendor enterprises. • Vocational & Artisanal Tools: Industrial sewing machines, tailoring accessories, and professional salon hairdryers for local artisans. • Agricultural Logistics: Solo spraying machines and agro-input support packages for beneficiaries engaged in cocoa and crop farming. Addressing the recipients, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah, emphasized that economic empowerment remains the most effective tool for social inclusion. She noted that putting commercial assets into the hands of PWDs converts beneficiaries into productive business operators who directly contribute to the municipal economy. The MCE cautioned recipients against selling or renting out the equipment, warning that the Social Welfare Department would conduct regular post-distribution monitoring visits to track business growth. The Head of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development reiterated that technical guidance and business advisory services would be continuously offered to ensure the enterprise units remain viable. Representatives of the local PWD association commended the Municipal Assembly and the Department of Social Welfare for their transparent selection process and commitment to grassroots development.
