ASANTE AKIM SOUTH CELEBRATES 40TH NATIONAL FARMERS’ DAY AT OFOASE
The Asante Akim South Municipal Assembly held a colourful durbar at Ofoase to commemorate the 40th National Farmers’ Day. The event, themed "Building Resilience in Agriculture: Enhancing Food Security through Climate-Smart Practices," brought together traditional leaders, agricultural experts, and hundreds of farmers from across the municipality to celebrate the backbone of the local economy. The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), in his keynote address, lauded the resilience of farmers in the face of global economic and climatic shifts. He emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to supporting the agricultural sector through the distribution of high-quality seedlings, fertilizers, and technical assistance via the Department of Agriculture. "Our farmers are the true heroes of our development agenda. Today, we honour your sweat and dedication to feeding this municipality and the nation at large," the MCE stated. The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of awards to outstanding farmers who had demonstrated excellence in various categories. The Municipal Best Farmer was presented with a motorized tricycle (Aboboyaa), a deep freezer, knapsack sprayers, Wellington boots, and several other farm inputs. Other awardees in the Best Youth Farmer, Best Female Farmer, and Best Livestock Farmer categories also received valuable prizes aimed at boosting their productivity. The Municipal Director of Agriculture encouraged farmers to adopt modern, sustainable farming techniques to increase their yields while protecting the environment. Traditional authorities at Ofoase expressed their gratitude to the Assembly for selecting their community to host the prestigious event and called for more irrigation projects to support year-round farming in the area.
