The Asante Akim South Municipal Assembly has successfully spearheaded a massive community clean-up exercise at Yawkwei. Organized in line with the National Sanitation Day initiative, the event marked the very first clean-up campaign mobilized under the leadership of the Assembly’s new administration. The exercise was led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah, and the management of the Assembly. Demonstrating a strong sense of shared responsibility, Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah worked side-by-side with the Assembly Member, Unit Committee members, traditional leaders, and opinion leaders of Yawkwei to clear clogged drains, weed overgrown public spaces, and sweep the town's primary streets. Addressing the community after the exercise, the Municipal Chief Executive commended the residents and local leaders for their high turnout and enthusiasm. She emphasized that environmental cleanliness is directly tied to public health, noting that keeping the municipality clean is a core priority of her administration. She urged other communities within Asante Akim South to emulate Yawkwei’s communal spirit to prevent disease outbreaks and enhance the beauty of the municipality. The traditional authorities and opinion leaders of Yawkwei expressed their gratitude to the MCE and the Assembly’s leadership for choosing their community to launch the administration's sanitation agenda. They pledged to maintain the momentum by sustaining regular local clean-up exercises to ensure Yawkwei remains a beacon of cleanliness in the municipality.
