Moving away from traditional boardroom discussions, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asante Akim South, Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah, took her administration’s community outreach directly to the fields, meeting with local cocoa farmers at a farm within one of the municipality's prominent farming communities. The on-site engagement allowed the new administration to witness firsthand the realities of local farming operations and deliberate on direct municipal support. Gathered under the shade of cocoa trees, the farmers openly shared the pressing everyday challenges affecting their yields and livelihoods with the Municipal Chief Executive. Key issues raised during the field deliberation included the rising cost of farming inputs, difficulties accessing high-quality fertilizers, the poor state of motorable roads linking the farms to major markets, and a shortage of agricultural extension officers to guide them through crop disease control. Responding to the grievances on-site, Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to prioritizing agricultural growth, which serves as the backbone of the local economy. The Municipal Chief Executive assured the gathering that management is actively collaborating with the Department of Agriculture and COCOBOD to streamline the distribution of subsidized inputs, so they reach the farmers directly. Furthermore, the MCE stated that targeted grading of critical farm-to-market roads remains a priority to help prevent post-harvest losses during the rainy season. The farmers expressed deep appreciation to the MCE for traveling out to the field to meet them in their working environment. Leadership from the local cocoa farming cooperative noted that the gesture demonstrated true leadership and pledged their full cooperation with the Assembly to adopt sustainable farming practices that will elevate production across Asante Akim South.
