ASANTE AKIM SOUTH MUNICIPAL CELEBRATES 41ST NATIONAL FARMERS’ DAY

The Asante Akim South Municipal Assembly has held a grand durbar of chiefs, farmers, and agricultural stakeholders to mark the 41st National Farmers’ Day at Yawkwei. The celebration, observed across the country on Friday, December 5, 2025, was held under the national theme: “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future”. The municipal event brought together hundreds of local farmers, traditional authorities, unit committee members, and assembly officials to honor the agricultural workers who form the backbone of the local economy. Delivering the keynote address, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah, commended the resilience and dedication of the municipality's farmers. She emphasized that despite challenges such as changing weather patterns and rising input costs, local farmers have consistently worked to keep food on the tables of residents and sustain rural livelihoods. Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah highlighted that the Assembly, through the Department of Agriculture, remains fully committed to decentralizing technical support. She stated that management is focused on providing improved crop seedlings, maximizing the reach of agricultural extension services, and collaborating on national interventions to boost production, add value, and attract youth into farming. The climax of the celebration was the presentation of municipal awards to deserving farmers who stood out across various categories. The Overall Municipal Best Farmer was presented with a motorized tricycle (Aboboyaa), a deep freezer, knapsack sprayers, Wellington boots, cutlasses, and a certificate of honour. Other categories, including Best Female Farmer, Best Youth Farmer, and Best Livestock Farmer, also received vital agricultural inputs and tools to expand their operations. The Municipal Department of Agriculture urged the awardees and the general farming community to consistently adopt modern, sustainable farming practices. Traditional leaders present praised the Assembly's management for the successful organization of the event and urged continued collaboration to improve farm-to-market road access across the municipality's major agrarian communities.
