ASANTE AKIM SOUTH DISTRIBUTES ECONOMIC ITEMS TO SELECTED PWDs

The Asante Akim South Municipal Assembly has taken a major step toward reducing poverty and promoting self-reliance by presenting dozens of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across the municipality with vital business setup tools and financial grants. Sponsored through the Disability Fund, the intervention aims to transform beneficiaries from economic dependents into active entrepreneurs. The distribution ceremony was overseen by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah, alongside management from the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development. To ensure maximum impact, the assembly conducted thorough field evaluations prior to the event, matching the distributed items directly to the specific trade backgrounds and physical capabilities of the selected recipients. A wide array of commercial equipment was handed over during the exercise, including deep freezers, industrial sewing machines, modern salon hairdryers, mechanical fufu pounding equipment, and diverse startup inventory. A segment of the beneficiaries also received direct cash disbursements to act as seed capital for setting up or expanding small-scale retail kiosks within their local communities. Speaking at the gathering, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah, explained that her administration is firmly focused on durable empowerment rather than temporary relief. She noted that putting productive assets directly into the hands of PWDs gives them a permanent means of generating income and taking control of their own financial futures. The MCE cautioned the recipients against selling the items, warning that the assembly would conduct routine monitoring visits to ensure the equipment is being used for its intended commercial purposes. The leadership of the local PWD association thanked the Municipal Chief Executive and the assembly management for their transparent and fair distribution process, stating that the new equipment would significantly reduce the daily financial hurdles faced by members.
